We were taught that "being nice" is the goal, so we became professional people-pleasers, constantly abandoning ourselves to keep the peace. But nice is not the same as kind. If your kindness leaves you out of the equation, it’s not actually kind.

I burned out twice, and picked up nearly 60 pounds (30kg) in the process. I tried every diet under the sun, but nothing stuck until I stopped ignoring myself. It wasn't until I worked through the emotions I was suppressing that I finally found the capacity to heal my relationship with food and lose the weight.
